March 26, 2020

Good afternoon. A few updates since our last email along with a reminder regarding upcoming conference calls of interest.

From Lt. Governor Husted:

A major traffic jam on the ODJFS website continues. Many calls are being placed asking if an individual misses a deadline to apply for unemployment benefits, will they receive any benefit at all. Lt. Gov. Husted asks all employers to reassure their employees that all UI benefits will be paid retroactive to the first day of eligibility. The state continues to add servers that in the end, will leave them with 15 times the capacity they had at the beginning of this crisis.

Currently, the coronavirus stimulus bill as it is written, WILL include unemployment benefits for self employed and 1099 workers.  Further information will be relayed if this changes.  I will send a breakdown of all pertinent details once it has been approved and signed.

For those of you that follow us on social media, we are posting the link to one FREE educational seminar each day. The SBA provides a large library of free opportunities. If you or your employees have spare time, it is a great way to sharpen the tools in your toolbox. These webinars are 30 minutes start to finish, come with downloadable workbooks and again, are free! You can work at your own pace, hitting pause when needed.

If your business may qualify for the Small Business Association’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, or if you have questions, we encourage you to join a webinar with Alex Kohls of the SBA’s Columbus District Office on Tuesday, March 31 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The purpose of this webinar is to walk through the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, review the application process, and answer any questions.

The dial-in conference number is (937) 314-3034 and no PIN is needed.

REMINDER: For those in the 15th District, Congressman Steve Stivers is hosting a Small Business Conference Call. As you are aware, the call hosted last week by the White House was essentially ‘sold out’ and many of us were unable to log on. The call will take place Friday, March 27th at 2:30 PM. Please follow the link below to get registered. Representative Stivers states “As Congress considers ways to support small businesses through this pandemic, I want to hear what you need and what would be most helpful. We’ll also be discussing some of the options already available, including the Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans, and other options that may benefit your business.” I would suggest registering as soon as possible, should you wish to participate.

Early this morning, The Chairman of Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell is quoted as saying “The sooner we get the virus under control, the sooner economic recovery comes.” We are all hopeful for that day.

I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes. Many times, I have fallen on this quote personally and professionally as I aim to adapt and overcome. “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” Jimmy Dean. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Be well – stay well,
